In your typical nine to five job, it may be easy enough to plan ahead, set an out-of-office on your email, and walk out the door without a second thought when heading on vacation. In real estate, it doesn’t quite work that way. Not only do you have to plan ahead to make sure everything is covered while you’re away, you need to ensure your clients have someone to reach out to, and that they are while taken care of before you can head out for some much needed rest and relaxation. Before you start thinking that a carefree holiday is out of the question, check out these tips that will help you easily manage your business while on vacation:
It’s Okay to Peek: Sometimes the best way to relax is to have some peace of mind, and unfortunately, you probably won’t get that without taking a few quick peeks! Instead of having your smart phone glued to your hip like you normally do, set aside a small amount of time each day to quickly check in and make sure there are no emergency’s in your absence. Set a time limit in which you are allowed to check (no longer than half an hour) and take care of any pressing issues before turning it off and enjoying the rest of the day carefree.
Time Management is Key: Your vacation, itinerary, and packing list are well planned, and your business should be no different. You know it’s coming up so whether it means working a little harder before you leave, or ensuring there are no distractions in the weeks leading up to your holiday, making sure you manage your time wisely will make a huge difference in finding time to relax.
Don’t be Afraid to Delegate: Unfortunately, you can’t just walk away from your business for a week or two and come back to it running as well as it did when you left. If you need some help while you are away, even if it is just having an emergency contact for your clients, don’t be afraid to ask! Everyone needs some time off, so make sure you are there to reciprocate the favour when it comes time for one of your colleagues to head out for a week of rest and relaxation.
Give Some Warning: You don’t want to be the person that leaves your clients hanging while you’re away. Instead of having them find out the hard way, give them some warning so they know the dates you are unavailable, and who they can contact should they run into an emergency. This will go a long way in showing them you are prepared, well organized, and a person they can count on.
Last but not least, relax! Everyone needs time to recharge, and you are no different. Come fall, your business will once again pick up and you don’t want to be worn out and tired when your clients need you most. Make a conscious effort to rest, and spend time with your friends and family who graciously accept your busy schedule throughout the remainder of the year. Once your vacation is done, you will be ready to face any challenges and obstacles that come your way!
