Jay Schurman, owner of RE/MAX Lakes Region in Detroit Lakes, MN opened his office in early 2018. Servicing the Lakes area of Northwest Minnesota, in just one year he has witnessed incredible growth – in more ways than one.
Just recently, Jay welcomed new co-owner Lisa Jasken to the RE/MAX Lakes Region brokerage. Lisa is a Detroit Lakes native and has 25 years of experience in the real estate and home-building industries. She has been a top producing agent in the Lakes Region for many years and was named the 2015 Realtor of the Year by Lakes Country Association of Realtors. Along with her co-owner responsibilities Lisa will continue to list and sell under the RE/MAX brand.
RE/MAX Lakes Region has also tripled its agent count within the last few months. Welcoming six new associates since late December, the company has jumped from three to nine associates, including Lisa. Jay and Lisa are excited to welcome Paula Okeson, Michelle Bjerke, Monica Kaiser, Joy and Michael Summers and Jack Chivers, formerly of Jack Chivers Realty. Jack built up his own real estate company and, after being a broker/owner since 1966, sold his company five years ago. He is excited to bring his experience and knowledge to the RE/MAX brand.
“I was just getting my feet under me and wasn’t really focused on recruiting,” said Jay. “I was having a banner year with RE/MAX, growing my personal business from $6 million to $15 million, when agents started to take notice. One agent reached out and I was smart enough to have my Why RE/MAX booklet at the ready. They asked for a few more to take with them and more agents reached out to me. Everything just fell into place.”
Thanks to the new agents, RE/MAX Lakes Region has seen astounding growth in volume. With nine full-time agents now in-house, the company’s production has increased to $54 million with 99 years of combined real estate experience. Added up, their combined sales for 2018 make them the highest producing real estate company in closed transactions for their local MLS.
“For not focusing on growth, we’ve seen a pretty big surge,” jokes Jay. “As Lisa and I look ahead we’re going to make sure those we have on board are successful and service their needs first and foremost. We will grow responsibly and surround ourselves with good, active agents. We’re excited to focus on good market presence and growing market share. The more RE/MAX signs in the ground, the better off we all are.”
With the recent growth, Jay and Lisa have moved to a new downtown location in Detroit Lakes. The new space, located at 817 Washington Ave, offers six private offices and a bullpen area. They are looking forward to hosting a Grand Opening event in April.
