RE/MAX Broker/Owner Hosts Event to Honors Veterans and Families

Our network of Broker/Owners are always finding new ways to give back to their communities and make a difference in the world.

As we honor our Veterans today, we want to extend a heartfelt congratulations and thank you to RE/MAX Broker/Owner, Dennis Terrell, and his crew at RE/MAX Dynamic Agents in Mankato, MN.  They hosted their 2nd annual, and very successful, Hog Roast for Heroes event yesterday in Eagle Lake American Legion.

Denny came up with the idea of doing a Veterans feed last year, just as a simple way to say thank you. “My father was on the island of Iwo Jima and would never talk about it.  I finally convinced him to go to the 65th Iwo Jima reunion that is held at DC every year.  It was there I saw the need for Veterans to get together as they spoke freely to one another about their experience from 65 years earlier.  I truly believe this helps the Veterans,” shares Denny. “When the 68th reunion came around, Dad was suffering from early dementia but he asked if they were having that thing in DC again. I asked if he wanted to go back and he said yes. I believe he just need to make peace with himself on what happened on the Island. It’s hard to understand to you or I, but Dad lost 63 of his company out of 220 on that island. So I know it is good to get these Veterans together.”

With Denny’s efforts his idea quickly grew into a community-wide initiative. The local radio station got involved, offering free advertising and interviewing local Vets. Other local business owners asked to help sponsor the event.  RE/MAX Dynamic Agents remains the main sponsor and Denny’s family helps put it all together but it’s truly a community event – with well over 50 volunteers, they even had to turn down the Lions Club and Fire Department’s help!

“The money we raise will go to South Central beyond the Yellow ribbon,” shares Denny. “They help veterans families when their loved one may be deployed or if they need any help when they return.  Last year’s event raised just under $8,000. We do not have a final account this year but I believe we will end up over $17,000.
